Film: Kevin Azzopardi – Physical Theory SS2013

By Siw · August 28, 2012

The Katachi team was thrilled to see a clean and clever presentation of Kevin Azzopardis Spring Summer 2013 men’s wear collection last week at the gallery TM51 in Oslo. Clever, not meaning complex, but as of exploiting the simple, which also suited the collection, and adding a bit of playfulness.

In stead of a catwalk, a bearded model wearing plain boxer shorts and a plastic apron, the designer himself and an assistant, steadily unfolded the tranquil collection from a box made of wood and fabric. After a few minutes, when the collection was neatly displayed on hangers in the fold-out box, and also a mobile sales unit, the short film “Physical Theory” was shown on a white wall in the gallery.

The film is a collab between Kevin Azzopardi, Norwegian furniture designer, Mads H Pålsrud, sound designer, Bjartur Gudjonsson, and Icelandic artist, Erna Einarsdóttir.

Have a look and see for yourself:

Kevin Azzopardi’s style is simple and soft in it’s expression, with basic tees, jackets and trousers. Often with a subtle fold or draped collar, the details reveal as you get closer. The jersey is super smooth, and in general the fabrics and needlework lift the SS2013 collection from previous years. The pallet is mellow with no detours, ranging from grayish rose to vanilla and dark grey.

The SS2013 collection has a friendly flow and finish. Emphasizing the playful coolness and keeping the simplicity in the film would be nice to see, in addition to a few technical refinements. That being said, it seems like Kevin Azzopardi has found his voice, and we are very much looking forward to the next performance.
